OPAL Surface — Object-Interactive Touch Table

A multi-touch table that recognises the objects placed on it — monolab's TÜBİTAK-supported R&D product.

OPAL Surface is monolab's TÜBİTAK-supported R&D product: a touch table that recognises the objects placed on it and responds to them. In the installation at Antalya's Kepez City Museum, visitors place cubes on the table — each face of a cube stands for one category of Antalya tourism.

When a cube touches the surface, a menu opens around it automatically; using the table's multi-touch capability, visitors browse sub-menus, photographs and texts through a playful interface.

The table runs on rear projection. Inside its body, three short-throw projectors and an enclosure lit specially with IR LEDs are watched continuously by three IR cameras. Running in real time at 120 fps without latency, it performs finger, blob and fiducial tracking, recognising 120 different fiducials and an unlimited number of touches.
