Paribu Art — A Building That Senses

Statement

With the Paribu Studio team I develop content for the giant digital surfaces that wrap Paribu Art in Kadıköy. Here the thing I give a character to is no longer a typewriter or a dress — it is a whole building.

Paribu Art, at Terminal Kadıköy, brings concerts, theatre, performance, exhibitions and audiovisual production under one roof. We treat digital art not as decoration added to the building later, but as part of its architectural identity and its daily life.

Our main question is how to make a space that senses: a building that is not a fixed shell for events, but a being that feels the movement, time, people and programme around it, and responds. Through digital façades and interactive systems the building becomes shapeshifting — its visual identity is not tied to a single logo or image, but changes with the hour, special days, events and the art produced inside.

We think of its place in Kadıköy in the same way: not as an inward-looking institution, but as a meeting point that joins the rhythm of the neighbourhood. The façade is not an advertising screen; it is a public surface that tells small stories to passers-by and draws on the district's past, its people, children, animals and architecture.

Gözlemevi

At night the building puts on its starry cloak and looks at the sky through a virtual telescope on its roof. But if it is going to watch the Moon, it should watch the real Moon: where it really is tonight, which phase it is in, how big it appears at its current distance from Earth, and which stars and planets stand behind it.

The poetic idea turned into mathematics — astronomy, geometry and real-time data. In Unreal Engine, NASA's LRO/LOLA lunar data and the HYG catalogue of about 120,000 stars are combined with the date, time and observer's position, so the system simulates the sky visible from Paribu Art at that very moment. Our phrase for it: a poetic image, a numerical backbone.

Façade Stories

Cephe Hikâyeleri

An AI model customised with 127 archive photographs of historic and local buildings in Kadıköy learns their architectural language and improvises new façades that resemble them but never existed — familiar to Kadıköy, yet belonging to an imaginary city.

Small animations in the windows, doors and surfaces — evoking life, knowledge, art, culture and the city — turn each façade into a character with its own story. It is as if Paribu Art had been born in Kadıköy and, looking at the buildings around it, were asking: how do I belong here?

For 23 April 2026, National Sovereignty and Children's Day, children coloured cat templates on tablets with their own colours and patterns. The moment a design was finished, the cat appeared on the LED screens of the outer façade and walked across it in short animations — a small, personal drawing became a large public image within seconds. The cat was chosen for Kadıköy's street culture.
