Tiny Elephants: from a novel to an installation
2023The tiny elephants first lived on paper. They are a group of characters from my novel Gurultu (Rumble): big-hearted little ghosts who live inside walls and turn the wheels of the world with their trunks.
For the Istanbul Digital Art Festival 2023 they were given a body. A red silk scarf is stretched over a hoop on top of a box; inside, a motor mechanism waits, and a Kinect sensor above watches for a visitor's hand. Touch the silk, and the elephants push back with tiny touches under your palm.
